Membership
Albuquerque’s Calligraphic Society was founded in April, 1978. We are a lively, congenial group open to anyone interested in the fine art of beautiful lettering. The benefits of membership include:
Meetings
Members and guests of Escribiente meet the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm. (No meetings are held in January, July and December.) They are held at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center located at 501 Elizabeth, SE in Albuquerque, New Mexico (southwest corner of Elizabeth and Southern). [Google Map]
We feature an informative program for all levels of calligraphy at each meeting, including speakers, hands on projects, social time to meet other calligraphers, and generally a good learning atmosphere. Everyone with an interest in creating beautiful letters is welcome!
Newsletter
Our quarterly newsletters provide news of Society activities, workshops, classes, international conferences, hints, tips & techniques, book reviews and calligraphic contributions from our members.
Supplemental flyers update members to meetings, and late breaking news.
Library
Our members-only library contains books on calligraphy, related arts, calligraphed calendars, newsletters from other calligraphy guilds and many great videotapes and DVD’s of professional calligraphers.
Exhibits
Escribiente sponsors one or two yearly member gallery exhibitions, plus our own special section in the Creative Arts building at the New Mexico State Fair held every year in September. This is a chance for every calligrapher, no matter what age or skill level, to exhibit creative work.
Workshops
Workshops are offered by international, national and local scribes. They are usually held from 9am to 4pm on a Saturday and Sunday, and are more technical and detailed than the Mini-workshops. They are a great chance to learn from some of the best teachers of calligraphy.
Membership benefits include discounts to attend workshops, and discounts at local art, paper and frame shops.

In-state membership fee: $25.00 per year
Out-of-state membership fee: $20.00 per year
Dues are renewable May of each year.
